Rest Is A Productive Activity
You had things you wanted to do this weekend— errands you wanted to run, things to take care of around the house, preparing for the week ahead— but… you didn’t get them all done. Instead, you lounged around, scrolled on social media, and binged Netflix while you ate takeout.
Now, you feel guilty. You weren’t as productive as you could’ve been and feel like you need to play “catch up” on your to-do list.
Quit beating yourself up for resting!
When exhaustion, fatigue, or just plain “laziness” hits, here’s what to do instead:
Listen to Your Body and Realize that Rest Is Productive:
YOU are your own best authority. If you truly want to lounge around all day, that might be exactly what you need. Listen to your inner voice and realize that doing nothing might be exactly what your body needs. Rest is a productive activity because it is absolutely necessary to refuel in order to continue moving forward in life. There’s a reason why your best ideas come to you in the shower, while you’re exercising, or during playtime with your kids. Your brain continues to work, even when you’re not actively doing anything. In fact, research shows that letting go of your problems on a conscious level gives your brain time to subconsciously do the work of solving them. All of this requires time to press pause and rest. You’re not just resting- you’re recovering.
On The Other Hand — Action Can Be the Cure to Lack of Motivation:
Some days, taking ACTION is the antidote for a lack of motivation. Just getting started is the cure to laziness. Once you simply begin, your juices start flowing, you gain momentum that you didn’t even know was there, and you overcome the lack of motivation. But only do this if your body is up for it— it's up to you to decide when you need to raise the bar, and when you need to lower it. Give yourself that permission to have the authority to make that choice for yourself.
